Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between granite and quartz?

Granite counters are mined from pure stone. The stone is sawed into slabs or made into tiles and then polished for installation. Quartz countertops are manufactured from crushed quartz that is mixed with pigment for coloration and resin as a binder. The quartz content is typically 92% to 94%.

Both types have their strong point. Granite shows slight, natural variations in the hue of the stone. Colors range from earth tones to blues, greens, and roses. The coloration of quartz is more consistent, and it is available in a  wider array of colors since they are produced with pigments added to the quartz.

While natural granite is strikingly beautiful, it needs to be sealed at installation and resealed on a regular basis. DuBois Granite & Quartz uses an impregnator and zeta seal. With proper care and maintenance, seals may last 20+ years before needing to be resealed.

Quartz doesn’t require this level of care. In addition, natural stone countertops including granite, slate, and sandstone stain quite easily. Granite that has been sealed with a resin-based product during manufacturing will be more resistant to trouble than standard granite, but still not as resistant as quartz. Both have a lifespan of 25-50 years depending on the level of care they are given and how they are used [source].

How do I care for my natural stone countertops?

Why choose DuBois Granite & Quartz?

In addition to our commitment to customer service and experienced staff, DuBois Granite & Quartz has a complete digital shop. We offer laser templating which ensures slabs are cut to precise measurements. Slabs are photographed and layouts are digitally placed to minimize seeming and maximize continuity. Once our team is satisfied with layouts, all layouts are sent for customer final approval.

Will you disconnect/connect the plumbing and the electricity during installation?

No. We are not licensed plumbers or licensed electricians. Therefore, we can not disconnect your plumbing or electrical connections. All plumbing and electrical connections need to be disconnected BEFORE we arrive on-site.

Why does my granite look different than the sample?

Natural stone, like granite or marble, is a product of nature. The stones are a composition of a wide variety of minerals that is susceptible to wide variations in color, texture, spotting, veining, and cracking. These variations are expected and are the source of its natural beauty. Therefore a 12x12-inch sample cannot completely represent the changes found throughout a whole slab of granite. This is why we invite and encourage all customers to view their material once it has arrived on-site before fabrication.
